Interactive Narrative Problem

I have almost completed my interactive narrative but i encountered a slight problem. I wanted to make it so that when the user moves the mouse over and object, in will interact. For example, moving it over the lamp, will automatically turn it on. However, some times there were 3 or 4 items on a single image that you could interact with, which meant as soon as i move the mouse something will happen and it all got very frustrating. I therefore decided to change it so that the user had to actually click on the item for it to change.
