Narrative Project (The Gettaway)
The Brief for our narrative project is as follows:
Title: The Gettaway Project
Genre: Fantasy/Romance / Film Noir
Style: Based on Film Noir, using the language of comic books.
Audience: Children aged 5-15
" 'The Gettaway Project' will be a short film produced by using black and white stills edited in Adobe Photoshop, then presented using powerpoint. Our aim is to create a story using shoes as the characters. The story starts with a pair of old trainers which ESCAPE from their home. They go on a JOURNEY to explore the city of Nottingham. On the journey they DISCOVER other shoes, for example; outside the music store they see big metal goth boots and RUN AWAY! The shoes HIDE in the park and MEET a beautiful pair of high heels. Its love at first sight, so they KISS. The high-heels are found and TAKEN AWAY by her owner. The shoes try to FIND THE GIRL but end up lost outside a shoe shop. In the window are lots of other similar shoes, so he thinks he's been CLONED. In the reflection, he sees he's old, and DREAMS of being new like the other shoes again. He goes in SEARCH of water to get clean.
The design concept is to base the stills on images from Film Noir, e.g.. dark beautiful shots. Huge consideration will be placed on the composition and angle of each image. Text will appear, as in comic book captions to help explain the narrative. Sounds from around the city will be recorded whilst shooting, and played whilst the stills are being shown. During some parts of the film we will use Stop Motion Animation for example when the shoes run away. Colour will be introduced to emphasise the dream sequence, as being a memory, along with afew seconds of music. The laces of the shoes will be moved in each shot to help animate the character, so the audience has more empathy with him. The film will be 2 minutes long, designed for young children with a simple story and aesthetically pleasing images. "
